Yknot Strategic Solutions is the creative vehicle for me, John Bradley.

Born in Britain, I spent 24 years in the corporate world with Cadbury, moving to Canada in 1996 to take up the position of Vice President – Marketing for Cadbury Canada. Eventually tiring of corporate life, I left in 2003 to pursue new ventures.

Initially, like most career marketers who emerge blinking into the bright sunlight of self-employment, I did (and still occasionally do) consulting for marketing and advertising companies, hence the name of my company. But I increasingly realised my passion lay with the written word. I had been writing articles on marketing for Strategy magazine since 2004 and, in 2006, I took the massive step of sitting down to write a book. That book, Cadbury’s Purple Reign - a history of the Cadbury company - was published to critical praise in 2008 and is still selling well.

But while I loved researching and writing the book, I felt frustrated by the publishing and book-selling industries, with their risk-avoidance and over-reliance on a few over-hyped authors. I wanted the freedom to write from the heart and the responsibility to market and sell my own books. So, in 2010, I set up Yknot Publishing to be the publisher of my next book, The Foul Bowel. Based on my own experiences of having had Crohn’s Disease for over 30 years, The Foul Bowel is designed to be a self-help book for Crohn’s patients and parents and should be available sometime in October 2010.

My latest venture is into greetings cards, driven by a frustration of not being able to find cards that make me, and hopefully the recipients of cards I send, laugh. Humour has always been important to me as I feel it plays a role in increasing a reader’s enjoyment no matter what the subject matter. This project is in its early phases; I am hoping to begin shipping cards into stores in time for the Christmas season.
